Joe Newcomb, SCORE Mentor - Mr. Newcomb most recently was CFO/General Counsel at a private equity funded medical device manufacturer and distributor. He was previously an executive officer at two publicly-traded multi-national medical device companies. Prior to the above positions, Mr. Newcomb provided legal, tax, and financial services to start-up and early stage technology companies, and was a senior officer in the U.S. office of a multi-national investment company. Mr. Newcomb started his career at Coopers & Lybrand (PriceWaterhouseCoopers), and holds a B.B.A. in Accountancy from the University of Notre Dame, a J.D. from the University of Connecticut, and a LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University. Mr. Newcomb is admitted to the bar in several states and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Newcomb is also an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Dan Brawley, CEO, Cucalorus - The Cucalorus Film Festival completed its sixth successful crowdfunding campaign in October 2016. Cucalorus CEO Dan Brawley will discuss strategies for building successful campaigns. Brawley will also give attendees a glimpse into how the crowdfunding landscape has changed since Cucalorus launched its first campaign with Kickstarter in 2011. According to former head of film at Kickstarter Dan Schoenbrun, Cucalorus is the most successful film festival in the history of crowdfunding (Kickstarter was founded in 2009). Numerous festivals have copied the Cucalorus framework to stage their own campaigns and Brawley serves as a consultant on numerous film campaigns.
Brendan Collins, Partner, Seahawk Innovation and CEO, mimijumi - Brendan brings a great deal of international business experience to Seahawk. Brendan co-founded WindRose Capital Ltd., a London-based advisory firm that specializes in sourcing and structuring early stage investments in African and South American energy and infrastructure projects for European institutional investors. Prior to founding WindRose, Brendan invested private equity and hedge fund capital across multiple industries with firms including DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, the flagship fund of Credit Suisse Private Equity. In addition, he independently advised Dutch Bank Insinger de Beaufort on the disposal of its UK businesses.
